las hermanas

DSC03420DSC03418
We had a “specialized training” just for hermanas today at the mission home. It was so great spending time with them all together. It was our first of this kind since we began our service. We are all looking forward to having similar experiences together in the future.

After they left, I discovered a “heart attack” on the refrigerator in my kitchen. I am sure it stay  there for quite a while!

mother’s day

Presidente is a wonderful husband. My friends are often jealous of his shopping prowess and desire to please me. He takes extraordinary care to make sure that my birthday and Christmas and super special events in my life. So it really wouldn’t be fair to complain about Mother’s Day. Let’s just say that it is NOT his thing. I have come to be okay with that. It has been made easy by the fact that I have four attentive daughters who go the extra mile to make me feel extra special on Mother’s Day. They did that this year too, even from far, far away. But something else happened this year too…
I found out what it was like to have sons on Mother’s Day. I received kind messages in person from missionaries here via a phone call or a moment spent together in person, and I was thrilled with the thoughtful messages that I received on Facebook from some of my missionary sons that are home now celebrating with their mothers.
I also received a little video from the office elders that I am posting because their own words and the words they share from Elder Holland are a tribute to the wonderful-ness of all mothers everywhere.
I want to express my great joy in having missionary sons and daughters, how I love them! and how grateful I am for each and every one of their extraordinary mothers!

mercedes district conference

I have probably mentioned before that in the church, a district is like a stake, only much smaller in numbers and much larger geographically. We have two districts in our mission and Presidente is the equivalent of the stake president for those two districts. We visit them pretty regularly, and I am starting to feel like I really know the members there. It is exciting to watch their growth and see the strength of those that are the stalwarts in these developing areas. Of course, the missionaries have different challenges than in areas with more members and find they have to work a little differently because of that. Saturday and Sunday was the district conference.

district help

DSC03336
Presidente has two counselors that help him with the needs of our two districts. In addition, there is a district president for each of the districts. This evening we had dinner with his two counselors and their wives (to the left and right of Presidente) and the district president and his wife from Chivilcoy. The district president from Mercedes was not able to come, but we will see him and his family tomorrow. I had to have a little laugh because it was really hard for them to even think of eating sooooo early. We ate just after 8, which is about an hour before most Argentines would consider normal. For those in the United States, you can think of it this way…a mission president has invited you to come to dinner at 4:00 pm. Personally, I like the tradition of eating later and spending the evening with friends. It is never dinner and…something else. Just dinner and chat. And that’s what we did.

zone conference in marcos paz

Sometimes Presidente will ask permission to share something that a missionary has written to him in a weekly letter. Today, however, he had the opportunity to have the missionary that wrote about the experience share it. Everyone in the room could feel the sincerity of his words and the depth of his conviction.
He said that seeing all of the problems stemming from having no water and no light made him realize the frailties of man. Then, he told of an experience that was particularly significant. He and his companion were contacting a family that was holding water jugs in the street the day after the storm. As he started to explain who they were, the woman said, “No! No! We are very busy. We are looking for water.” Those words, “We are looking for water,” touched his heart as he recalled the story in John about the woman at the well.
Christ is the Living Water from which we may receive eternal life. How blessed we are to be able to share this message.

The office elders went searching for matching ties on their P-day. This photo is part II of a two-part series. I didn’t get a picture of part I yesterday, but I understand there will be an encore.
