For a while now, I have wanted to take the blog readers on a little tour of the office. Something that you might know is that there is graffiti all over Buenos Aires because it is legal to graffiti anything here. Some of the graffitis are quite good and maybe one day, I will do a graffiti blog, but for today, we’ll start the tour with the Alice in Wonderland graffiti-ed wall that is very near the office.
The office, itself is part of a huge building. There are two chapels. One of them is able to accommodate 1000 people if you open the extension into the cultural hall. That is where we met when we had our devotional with the apostles.
Our place is around the back, but we have a nice sign over the entrance.
Once inside, there is a narrow corridor with a couple of chairs. You might recognize the picture frame from a previous blog. We now have a picture of the Buenos Aires Temple there!
Presidente’s office is the first door on the right. Outside his door is almost always littered with shoes. Early on, we found it was impossible to keep the carpet clean. Presidente has the missionaries leave their shoes outside his door and that has made a huge difference.
Exactly opposite Presidente’s door on the other side of the hallway is a room that is nicknamed, The Cave. It is where all of the missionary supplies are stored as well as where we keep all the mail that is waiting to be delivered. There are several banks of storage like the one shown in the picture. We are grateful that the current secretaries have organized it so well. It has never looked better.
There is another room that is accessed from the hallway between Presidente’s office and The Cave. It is the conference room. We have recently made some changes to accommodate the needs of the mission and added items that reflect our mission. We have square tables because we are always accommodating different size groups. We have found it really useful to take them apart and put them together according to our needs. Today we are feeding 35 so the tables are all apart to accommodate the maximum number of eaters.
Presidente calls this the logo picture. I, personally, have never heard of a logo picture. And surely having seen the logo like 2,000 times by now at least, you know what that looks like. We have a giant picture of the logo just outside Presidente’s door that you can see a little bit in that picture of his office door above.
Back to the logo picture. Presidente has been waiting quite a while. He had one of the bags in the picture and he finally inherited the other one recently, so they are both hung.
As a side note, I should mention that Presidente traveled a lot, so when I had projects to do around the house, I often had to take them on with the able assistance of our daughters.
It really was quite a different experience for me, working with the elders. We were recycling a few items and when I would suggest using a hammer, for example, they would say something like, “Stand back, Hermana while I rip those nails out with my teeth and spit them in the corner!” Okay, well nobody actually said that, but having all this manpower around is quite an asset! Not to mention the fact that they are super willing!!!!! Have I mentioned recently what great missionaries we have?
The walls are made of cement, which you can imagine is not conducive to a wall collage. Our friends serving in Resistencia were kind enough to bring in a product that allowed us to do what we wanted.
The missionaries have been figuring out who is where in the various pictures.
There is another door in this room that leads to the proper part of the chapel, which is really convenient for our meetings there.
We had a giant DC 4 subway art printed.
The mission flag is opposite the wall with the collage. You can see that lunch is ready, apart from the fact that the 62 sandwiches that we ordered are still wrapped up.
There is one wall left, and I didn’t take a picture of it. It has a giant map of the mission and a huge whiteboard.
Last of all is a big workroom. You can see it when you enter, opposite the temple picture. It is actually on the left, as you enter, but this photo is taken from the other end of room, so it is on the right in the photo. We have all the normal office files, chairs, desks, telephones, printers and computers. We often ride around on the chairs and visit one another at the work stations and do cooperative projects.
This is where the mission business happens, as I am sure you can tell!
Hace un tiempo, he querido llevar a los lectores del blog a un tour de la oficina.
Algo que tal vez sepan es hay graffiti en todos lados en Buenos Aires porque no es contra la ley hacerlo. Algunos son muy lindos y tal vez algún día vaya a hacer un graffiti blog per hoy vamos a empezar el tour con la pared de graffiti de Alicia en el Pais de las Maravillas, que es muy cerca de la oficina.
La oficina es una parte de un gran edificio. Hay dos capillas. Una de ellas puede facilitar mil personas si la extensión a la sala cultural esta abierta también. Allá es donde nos reunimos cuando tuvimos nuestra devocional con los apóstoles. Nuestro lugar es atrás pero tenemos un cartel lindo arriba de la entrada.
Adentro hay un pasillo con algunas sillas. Tal vez reconocen la marco de un blog anterior. Ahora tenemos una foto del Templo allá.
La oficina del Presidente es atrás de la primera puerta a la derecha. Afuera de su puerta casi siempre hay zapatos. Muy temprano en nuestra misión pudimos ver que fue imposible mantener la alfombra limpia. El Presidente ha pedido a los misioneros que se saquen los zapatos antes de entrar y ha hecho una diferencia grande.
Al otro lado del pasillo con la puerta del Presidente hay un cuarto que se llama La Cueva. Es donde todas las cosas misionales están guardadas y donde guardamos el correo que esta esperando enviarse. Hay algunos bancos de almacenamiento como en la foto. Estamos muy agradecidos que los secretarios ahora lo han ordenado muy bien. Nunca ha estado mejor.
Hay otro cuarto entre la oficina del Presidente y La Cueva. Es la sala de conferencia. Recién hicimos algunos cambios para facilitar las necesidades de la misión y agregamos algunas cosas que reflejan nuestra misión. Tenemos mesitas cuadradas porque siempre tenemos grupos de diferentes tamaños. Es muy útil separarlas y juntarlas en maneras diferentes según nuestras necesidades. Hoy estamos almorzando 35 entonces las mesitas están separadas para acomodar la máxima cantidad de gente
El Presidente llama esta foto la foto logo. Yo, personalmente nunca he escuchado de una foto logo. Y seguramente han visto, com 2 mil veces por lo menos, el blog de la misión y saben como es. Tenemos un foto grande del logo justo afuera de la puerta de la oficina del Presidente que pueden ver un poquito.
Vamos otra vez a la foto logo. El Presidente ha estado esperando por bastante tiempo. Tuvo una de las bolsas en la foto y por fin heredo la otra recién entonces las dos están allí ahora en la pared.
A lado, debo mencionar que el Presidente viajaba mucho entonces cuando tuve proyectos para hacer en casa, muchas veces los hice con la ayuda de mis hijas.
Fue una experiencia muy diferente para mi, trabajar con los elderes. Estamos reciclando algunas cosas y cuando surgeri usar un martillo, por ejemplo, ellos me dijeron algo com, Espera atrás Hermana, mientras saco los clavos con mis dientes y los escupo en la esquina. Bueno, en realidad nadie me dijo eso, pero tener un tanta fuerza de hombres es buen capital. Y ellos son dispuestos! Mencione recién que capos son nuestros misioneros_
Los paredes son de cemento y pueden imaginar no es fácil armar un collage en la pared. Nuestros amigos sirviendo en Resistencia estaban muy amables y nos trajeron un producto para ayudarnos a hacerlo que queremos hacer.
Los misioneros han estado buscando quien esta donde en las fotos. Hay otra puerta en este cuarto para acceder a la capilla que es muy conveniente para nuestras reuniones allá.
Tuvimos una foto de arte de DC 4 impresa. La bandera de la misión esta en la pared contraria el collage. Pueden ver que el almuerzo esta listo menos el hecho que 62 sandwiches todavía están envueltos.
No tengo una foto de la otra pared. Tiene un mapa de la misión y un pizarrón.
Por ultimo hay un cuarto de trabajo. Pueden verlo cuando entran en frente de la foto del Templo. En realidad es por la izquierda pero esta foto es del otro lado del pasillo entonces esta a la derecha en la foto.
Tenemos todas las cosas normales de una oficina como archivos, sillas, escritorios, teléfonos, impresora, y computadores. Algunas veces andamos en las sillas y nos visitamos en las estaciones y hacemos proyectos juntos. Aquí es donde tiene lugar la administración de la misión como pueden ver!
