The three missionaries above, have been serving in their home country of Peru, eight, six and four months while waiting for their paperwork. (We have Presidente’s secretary with us as well, because he has never had the “Park Experience.”

We have more good news from Mexico. Those missionaries arrived later today and were hurried off to Capital. We will meet them tomorrow!

In the meantime, we enjoyed our morning at the Parque Tres de Febrero.

Our sister from Honduras arrived last week. She and her companion joined us for orientation at the mission home.

Marcos Paz also had an incredible month of September as a zone. Presidente and the assistants joined their meeting this morning.

the verduleria

In spite of the fact that the missionaries seem to live on bread, meat and dessert, there are plenty of fruits and vegetables available. I photographed the four verdulerias that are within a 5 minute walk from my house. (You can also buy fruits and vegetables at the supermarket.) It is easy to spot these places of business all over the mission. There are always colorful displaying the fresh produce of the season. They are usually found on corners, as well.

Verduleria translates to the words grocery store. In the States, I used supermarket and grocery store interchangeably. I guess that is because we don’t really have grocery stores limited to produce where I live.
An interesting service is to have your fruits and vegetables delivered. You can see the bicycle standing by in the two pictures above.

I have heard that the fruits and vegetables are all grown locally. I assume it is part of the President’s no import policy. The good news is that the produce matures in the fields and tastes great! When my grandkids were visiting last year, they barely recognized the potatoes that arrived at the market covered with dirt.
Right now, we are enjoying the strawberries that arrived everywhere this past week!


A pesar del hecho de parece que los misioneros viven gracias el pan, carne y postre y no se porque hay un montón de frutas y verduras disponibles.

Saque fotos de las 4 verdulerías que están adentro de 5 minutos caminando de mi casa. Puede comprar frutas y verduras en el supermercado también. Es fácil encontrar estos negocios sobre toda la misión. Siempre hay muchos colores de productos frescos de la estación. Hay normalmente por la esquina también.

En EEUU use las palabras supermercado y verdulería como sinónimos. Supongo es porque no tenemos verdulerías con solamente productos donde vivo.

Un servicio es tener sus frutas y verduras entregadas. Puede ver la bici lista en las 2 fotos arriba.

He escuchado que las frutas y verduras son plantadas acá. Tal vez, es parte de la política de la Presidenta de no importaciones. Las productos que no crecen en Argentina son los únicos que se importan de países limítrofes. La buena noticia es que los productos maduran en el campo y tienen buen sabor. Cuando mis nietos estuvieron acá el ano pasado casi no pudieron reconocer las papa que llegaron a la verdulería con tierra.

Ahora estamos disfrutando frutillas que llegaron por todos lados esta semana.

Conference Saturday at the mission home, tuned into the laptop.

I think I have loved conference all my life. I grew up in southern California in the olden days and I can remember listening to conference on the radio. I think that the first time I ever saw it live was when I was a student at BYU, and in those times, conference lasted three days. I couldn’t imagine why we had to go to class when conference was on. Fortunately, and I got to see quite a lot of it on the various monitors around campus.
Later, when we lived in England for four years, there was no live feed, satellite or otherwise. We received conference on tapes. “Our” conference weekend was always scheduled for the first weekend in November to allow plenty of time for the tapes to arrive from Salt Lake. I remember standing in the chapel with tears streaming down my face for the joy of being able to watch conference, albeit a month late.
What a blessing we now have, to be able to watch conference live from almost anywhere in the world. An extra blessing for us was our returned missionaries that stopped by via Facebook to say hello. The relationship we share with our missionaries means the world to us and we have every expectation it will continue into the eternities.

Conferencia Sábado en la casa de la misión.

Pienso que he amado la conferencia toda mi vida. Crecí en el sur de California en los dias antiguos y puedo recordar escuchar la conferencia por medio de la radio. Pienso que la primera vez que la vi en vivo fue cuando era una estudiante asistiendo BYU, y en esta época la conferencia duro 3 dias. No pude imaginar porque necesitábamos asistir a clases cuando había conferencia general. Por suerte, pude ver mucho por medio de los monitores alrededor del campus.

Mas adelante, cuando vivimos en Inglaterra por 4 anos no había una transmisión en vivo, satélite, ni nada. Recibimos la conferencia en cintas. Nuestro fin de semana de conferencia fue planeado para el primer fin de semana en Noviembre para dar mucho tiempo para que las cintas lleguen de Lago Salado. Recuerdo estar parada en la capilla con lagrimas cayendo en mi cara por el gozo que pude ver la conferencia, no importa que fue un mes mas tarde.

Que bendición tenemos verla en vivo por casi todo el mundo. Una bendición extra para nosotros fue nuestros misioneros retornados que pasaron vía Facebook a decir hola. Nuestra relación que compartimos con nuestros misioneros significa el mundo para nosotros y tenemos cada expectativa que va a continuar para siempre.j

excitement for general conference

The wife of one of the area authority seventies put together this great inspiration for watching general conference and said that she was happy to share. Enjoy it!

La esposa de un autoridad de los setentas hizo esta inspiración para mirar la conferencia general y ella me dijo que esta feliz de compartirlo. Disfrute!

gonzalez catan celebrates

We just had stake conference with Gonzalez Catan. Their building was full to overflowing, and it was very impressive because everyone was super reverent. We spent such a lovely morning there.



Little did we know, that we would be back 9 days later to celebrate with the elders of the Gonzalez Catan zone.
It takes the whole mission to have a great month like we had. However, there were two zones that really should be acknowledged. In Gonzalez Catan, they had the goal of baptizing 28 people this month. The missionaries were super focused and obedient and they experienced many miracles. 
Presidente and I went and joined them for their zone meeting this morning and shared their joy. In an effort to keep their goals constantly in mind, they did things like wake up every morning at 6:28  instead of 6:30. They went to bed at 10:28 instead of 10:30. One of the districts went to have lunch one day at an all-you-can-eat pizza place. They decided that between the companionship, they had to eat 28 pieces of pizza…and all five companionships actually did it! In their meetings, they always sang hymn number 28, which is The Battle Hymn of the Republic in the Spanish Hymnal. It is interesting how little things can make a difference. Suffice it to say, with these motivators and in other small ways, number 28 became very significant for them.
The zone leaders wanted to make a flag and decided to do so by recycling a curtain in their apartment.
The missionaries signed on the left, and as people were baptized, their names were added on the right side of the flag. They brought the flag to all of their meetings. More than anything else, the missionaries worked really hard all month keep their commitments.

One of the miracles is…
…that they actually baptized 32 people this month in the zone of Gonzalez Catan.

Justo tuvimos la conferencia de la estaca de Gonzalez Catan. Su edificio estaba lleno casi repleto y fue muy impresionante por la reverencia con tantas personas. Pasamos una mañana linda allá.

No tuvimos ninguna idea que íbamos a regresar en 9 dias para una celebración con los elderes de la zona de Gonzalez Catan.

Necesitamos que toda la misión tenga un mes como tuvimos. Sin embargo hay dos zonas que realmente debemos acreditar.  En Gonzalez ellos tuvieron la meta de bautizar 28 personas este mes. Los misioneros estuvieron súper enfocados y obedientes y tuvieron muchos milagros. El Presidente y yo fuimos y nos reunirnos con ellos para su reunión de zona esta mañana y compartimos su gozo. Para guardar su meta en sus mentes constantemente ellos hicieron cosas como levantarse cada día a las 6.28 en vez de 6.30. Ellos fueron a dormir por la noche a las 10.28 en vez de 10.30. Uno de los distritos fue para su almuerzo a un pizza libre. Decidiero que entre el compañerismo necesitaban comer 28 porciones de pizza y todo los 5 compañerismos hicieron eso. En sus reuniones siempre cantaron numero 28, lo cual es Himno de batalla de la República. Es interesante que diferencia hay con cosas pequeñas. Podemos decir con estas motivaciones y en otras maneras pequeñas el numero 28 fue muy significativo para ellos.

Los líderes querían hacer una bandera y decidieron hacerla reciclando una cortina en su pensión. Los misioneros firmaron por la izquierda y cuando alguien fue bautizado sus nombres estuvieron agregados a la derecha de la bandera. Ellos llevaron su bandera a todos sus reuniones. Mas que nada los misioneros trabajaron realmente fuerte todo el mes para mantener sus compromisos. Uno de sus milagros es que en realidad bautizaron 32 personas este mes en la zona de Gonzalez Catan.
