ccm refuerzos

Of course, we are sad that we will not be receiving our refuerzos from the United States. In fact, we also learned that they will not send them to us until our next transfer June 5, even if the missionaries do receive their visas. I am trying to be patient...it's not easy for me.

On the bright side...we received three amazing refuerzos from the CCM. The two hermanas are from Peru and our elder is from Mendoza, here in Argentina. Not only that, they are great refuerzos, and they are excited and ready to work. They are a blessing!

We had Peruvian food for lunch, much to the delight of the hermanas and Presidente. The rest of us liked it too. Then Presidente got out his Remembrance Book and Journal from his mission and entertained us with stories from the good old days.

arco iris

Sunday morning shots in the streets of Arco Iris (translation=rainbow) in the zone of Marco Paz. Presidente was so excited to see a DirecTV dish from his former days, so we had to include a picture of that.

DSC02767They have the most amazing group of young men in the ward. They performed their Priesthood duties perfectly in their clean white shirts and ties. A missionary from their ward is entering the CCM this coming week. It was a very exciting Sunday for us to be visiting and sharing the vision of the mission.

while we were away

The assistants and the office elders were working hard to keep everything running smoothly. However…one night they realized that they were going to have to hurry to make it home on time!

And then, they remembered that it was Oreo Night!

So they had a very quick snack!

And, of course, they all made it to bed, just in the nick of time. They said that is was EPIC!
Seriously, we feel so blessed to have such capable missionaries that took care of absolutely everything.

After all of our classes today, we had a field trip…to the Montevideo Temple.DSC02690DSC02691
I have really missed the opportunity to go to the Temple. When we received our mission call, we learned that the Buenos Aires Temple was being remodeled, but at that time, the expectation was that the work would be completed before we arrived. We have been here almost ten months now. We are hoping for an open house sometime in September this year. It will be a great blessing to have a functioning temple in Argentina again. I have to say, that we are really excited to be a part of the re-opening, as well.DSC02694
Elder Arnold made a presentation in the chapel near the temple. The temple in Uruguay is also temporarily closed right now, for cleaning, however, they agreed to allow us to come this evening.
DSC02698It seemed as if all of the temple workers were waiting to greet us as we entered.  I was powerfully struck with the emotion that I was home…and, all of the kisses and abrazos only added to that sentiment.DSC02700

Montevideo

We arrived in Uruguay this morning for the Mission Presidents Seminar.
Montevideo
It was a bright sunshiney day and the beaches in Uruguay reminded us a little bit of California except that they weren't crowded at all on a Wednesday morning in the middle of fall.
There was lots of good food to eat and lots of stories to share.
We learned that we are getting a new area presidency, however, President Arnold is remaining. The Chile Area is combining with the Southamerica Southeast Area in August. We feel fortunate that the area offices are in Buenos Aires so we are able to interface easily with the area authorities and support personnel.

We are grateful for the opportunity to learn with these great people.

back in their own beds

As of Saturday night, all of our displaced missionaries were able to return to their pensions. As of last night, their “home before dark” curfew was lifted.
What memories they all have from the past week!
