Our missionary from Mexico has been on the wait list for five months! In the mission, the first companion is known as the “Papa”. The Papa/Trainer follows their Hijo/Son or Refuerzo with a special kinship and joy. Some of the missionaries keep track of their genealogy for several generations!
Most of the missionaries want an opportunity to train, even though they know that it is a great responsibility. They understand that their role is extremely important as they often have to teach language skills in addition to all the other skills and responsibilities of mission life. Needless to say, they study and pray to prepare for this assignment.
We had a little laugh today, when the aforesaid missionary from Mexico told us that his companion called him a “trucho hijo” or “fake son”. Obviously, he already had the 12 week training program during his temporary assignment in Mexico; he already knows the language, and he was even a senior companion himself before his visa came through. Trust me, in spite of the little joke, his Papa is thrilled to have a companion that is already so capable!
VISA UPDATE:
We actually received an update today from the missionary department. They told us that they had not received any more visas, but that if they should receive any over the next couple of weeks, they will send all of the missionaries together on our regularly scheduled transfer date near the end of the month. With 15 still waiting and 20 more scheduled to come, we are hoping and praying to receive 35 “hijos reales”.
*You might be interested to know that there are two meanings for hijos reales— real children and royal children :)
Por supuesto mas o menos durante el mes pasado, recibimos estas ¨suertes¨¨que han recibido sus visas. Normalmente, usamos el primer día y medio con misioneros nuevos ante de mandarlos a camp, pero estos elderes, la mayoría de quienes llegaron individualmente han sido llevados casi directamente a sus áreas. Invitamos a ellos a regresar entonces ellos pudieron tener su primer día de experiencia.
Nuestro misionero de Mexico ha estado esperando 5 meses. En la misión el primer compañero se conoce como el Papa. El Papa-Entrenador mira su Hijo-Refuerzo con fraternidad y gozo especial. Algunos de los misioneros miran sus genealogías por generaciones.
La mayoría de los misioneros quieren la oportunidad de entrenar, aunque ellos saben que es una responsabilidad grande. Ellos entienden que so rol es muy importante porque muchas veces ellos necesitan ensenar el idioma ademas de todos las otras habilidades y responsabilidades de la vida de un misionero. No es necesario decir que ellos estudiaron y oraron para prepararse para esta asignación.
Tuvimos una risa pequeña hoy, cuando el misionero de Mexico nos dijo que su compañero lo llama un ¨hijo trucho.¨
Obvio, ya tuvo el programa de 12 semanas de entrenamiento durante su tiempo en México, y ya sabe el idioma y el fue un compañero mayor antes cuando el estaba esperando su visa.
En serio a pesar de este chiste, su Papa esta muy feliz de tener un compañero que ya es capa.
Visa update
Recibimos una noticia hoy de departamento de misioneros. Ellos no dijeron que ellos no han recibido ninguna visa, pero si ellos reciben algunas durante las semanas que vienen, ellos van a mandar todos los misioneros juntos en nuestra fecha normal a fin de mes. Con 15 que todavía están esperando y 20 mas con una fecha cerca, estamos esperando y orando para recibir 35 ¨hijos reales.
