blue moon pastores

We normally celebrate with the Pastores at the mission home the day of their departure. However, most of them are staying on for the next week to enjoy the dedicatory events. Coupled with the fact that we took an extra day to orient the refuerzos, we switched things up a little bit and did our mission home experience yesterday and the city tour today.

I was asked today if I ever get tired of doing the Pastores Tour. The answer is no, because it is always different, even though we go to the same places. We had a singing guide at the Colon Theater for the first time. She had a really great voice and demonstrated a few musical clips for us from the composers she was telling us about. However, what was truly spectacular was that the Buenos Aires Philharmonic was practicing for their performance this evening! We got to hear about the last five minutes of Mahlers 7th Symphony. Although the “Song of the Night” is a little bit odd, it was fun to hear those musical surprises with lots of drum banging, horn blowing, bell ringing excitement. I found a version of it on youtube in case the Pastores or anyone else wants to listen to it.

day one—take two

As promised yesterday, we switched groups today and met up with the North American refuerzos at the office this morning. They all looked better for the opportunity to sleep in a bed.
After the tour of the city, we stopped off at the park where one of the elders offered a really beautiful prayer of thankfulness that their visas had arrived and that they have the opportunity to be in this very special place.

After sharing the history and taking an official photo, we also had to take a celebration picture! They made it!!!!!!!

We had a little extra time so we took them over to see the widest river in the world—I think it is like 136 miles across. However, for me the best part is the city skyline in the distance.

There is a cute local restaurant just down the street from the mission home. Actually, Presidente and I eat there about once a week. We decided to take the missionaries there for lunch. They still seem a little dazed that they really are in Argentina. They got a quick dose of reality when they got handed the menu and the waitress was speaking waaaaay faster than the Spanish they are used to hearing.

We spent the afternoon at the mission home and while Presidente was doing interviews, Elder Douglass and I were answering questions about life in Argentina and sharing amusing and/or interesting missionary stories. I have to say that the missionaries also kept us quite entertained sharing their various experiences as well.
