Since it is summer in the Southern Hemisphere, there are bicyclists are all over Buenos Aires. Civic leaders have tried to make Buenos Aires a bicycle-friendly city. A record 1.8 million bicycles were sold in Argentina in 2011, and it is estimated that 1.6 million bikes were sold in 2012. Following a regional trend, Argentines have been increasingly giving up cars for bicycles, with the number of cyclists in Buenos Aires rising from 30,000 to 150,000 over the past three years, according to local government sources. In fact, bike sales surpassed used car sales in 2011. 
Through its "Better on a Bike" (Mejor en Bici) program, Buenos Aires has built almost 50 miles of bike lanes since 2009, and more than 30 miles are planned for next year. With high demand and low inventory, bicycles have become very expensive here. A bicycle that retails for $150 in the United States now costs the equivalent of $700 in Argentina. As a mission, we were fortunate to learn of a resource with a local member of the church who happens to be a bicycle manufacturer. Fortunately, with orders from the Buenos Aires South Mission, as well, we get a better price. They are not beautiful bikes, but they serve their purpose. We had one at the office in for repairs, so I got a picture.
You can see that it is a bike with nothing added. The missionaries like to ride bikes, especially out in campo where there is no public transportation, and the distances from one investigator’s home to the next can be quite far. We have 34 missionaries on bicycles, which is actually less than 20% of our missionaries. 
As a side note, an interesting challenge for the mission is that many missionaries come to us that have never ridden a bike. Presidente dialed back to his bike teaching skills from 30 or so years ago to get this elder on his way.
Porque es verano en el hemisferio sur, hay ciclistas en todos lados de Buenos Aires. Los líderes del gobierno han tratado de hacer Buenos Aires una ciudad amable a los ciclistas. Mas que nunca antes 1.8 millones de bicis fueron vendidas en Argentina en 2011 y mas o menos 1.6 millones en 2012.
Siguiendo otros, los Argentinos han estado dejando sus autos y usando bicis, con el numero de ciclistas creciendo de 30 mil a 150 mil durante los 3 anos pasados dice el gobierno local. De hecho las ventas de bicis son mas de ventas de auto usados en 2011.
Por medio de su programa, Mejor en Bici, Buenos Aires ha hecho mas de 75 km de bicisendas desde 2009 y mas de 45 km están planeadas para este ano.
Con una montón de gente que quiere bicis y el hecho que no hay muchas bicis acá, las bicis son muy caras. Por ejemplo, una bici que puede comprar en EEUU por UD$150, cuesta mas o menos el igual de US$700 en Argentina.
Como una misión, tuvimos suerte aprender de un miembro que hace bicis. Con pedidos de la misión Buenos Aires Sur también, nos dieron un mejor precio. Ellas no son bicis lindas pero sirven su propósito. Tuvimos una en la oficina para arreglar entonces saque una foto. Puede ver que es una bici con nada agregado. A los misioneros les gustan las bicis especialmente en el campo donde no hay transporte publico, y el viaje de una casa de un investigador al próximo puede ser bastante lejos. Tenemos 34 misioneros en bicis, lo cual es menos de 20% de nuestros misioneros en realidad.
Ademas de eso, un desafío interesante para le misión es que muchos misioneros vienen a nosotros que nunca han manejado una bici. El Presidente encontró sus habilidades enseñando como manejarlas desde hace 30 anos o mas ayudarlo a este elder a aprender.
