About 6 months ago a new 100 peso banknote was introduced to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the death of Eva Peron. It was inspired by the 1952 Argentina 5 Pesos bill which was withdrawn three years later when a new military dictatorship took over. It was not announced when the bills would actually go into circulation. Although I saw one a few weeks ago, however, I didn’t actually own one until yesterday, when the mission finance secretary traded the new issue for one of my old 100 peso notes.

The current President, Mrs. Kirchner, whose party was inspired by Evita's husband, Juan Peron, said the initial printing will be commemorative. Evita, who found fame as an actress before marrying Peron, is adored by many Argentines for helping women get the vote, securing labour benefits for the working classes and founding hospitals and orphanages. As a casual observer, it appears that inflation is growing dramatically. While the President claims that it is only 8%, many outside sources say that it is actually about 26%. All I can say is that when we first arrived in Argentina, we were getting about 4 pesos to the dollar and now we are getting about 5. It is too bad that the prices have gone up dramatically, as well. So, that means that the new bank note is worth about $20…for today.  Mas o menos 6 meses atrás encontramos un billete de cien pesos nuevo. Fue con el propósito de recordar los 60 anos de la muerte de Eva Perón. La inspiración fue un billete de 1952 de 5 pesos, pero ellos fueron sacados 3 anos después cuando una nueva dictadura militar tomo el poder. No anunciaron cuando estos billetes iban a entrar en circulación Aunque vi uno  hace algunas semanas sin embargo no tuve uno hasta ayer cuando el secretario de finanzas de la misión me cambio uno por un billete viejo que yo tenia.

La presidenta, la Señora Kirchner, cuyo partido político fue inspirado por el esposo de Evita , Juan Perón dijo que la imprenta inicial seria conmemorativa. Evita quien encontró la fama como actriz antes de su casamiento con Perón es adorada por muchos Argentinos por ayudar a obtener el voto femenino, asegurar los beneficios de trabajador de la clase obrera y fundar hospitales y orfanatos.
Como observadora casual parece que la inflación esta creciendo dramáticamente. Mientras que la presidente asegura que es solo 8%, muchas fuentes externas dicen que en realidad es de 26%. Solo puedo decir que cuando llegue a Argentina recibíamos 4 pesos por cada dólar y ahora recibimos 5. Es triste que los precios hayan subido dramáticamente también.
