the flood in la plata

Although the flooding that occurred on the 2nd of April in La Plata, Argentina  was not in our mission, many of the wards and branches in our mission have been involved in the relief effort. This video was posted on the 10th of April documenting some of those efforts. Maybe because it was made early on, the video says that more than 53 people died, but this week I read that the number is actually 67. Although, I only just became aware of the video, I had no doubts that the Church would be among the very first responders, certainly with water, food and hygiene aids.
As it turns out the effort was much bigger than that. Watching the video, I learned that the Church has a big distribution warehouse in Monte Grande, Buenos Aires, from which the relief effort was coordinated. I enjoyed the comments of the journalist who tell us that she is a Catholic and her impressions of the super-organized groups. She talks about how the members had arrived early to prepare the clothes and food for distribution among all those that came, whether they were members of the church or not. She, herself, ended up staying and working on the distribution all afternoon. She comments that although there were many things donated, because of the organization, all of the things had a destination. She also says that she enjoyed working shoulder to shoulder with everyone, knowing that really, we are all working on the same side.
Even though this event occurred over a month ago, the Church continues to support the special needs in La Plata. Our family has worked on similar projects in the United States. It is such a joy to belong to the Church and witness the help that it gives to people in need all over the world, whether those needs are physical or spiritual.


Aunque las inundaciones que pasaron el 2 de Abril en La Plata, AR no estuvieron en nuestra misión, muchos de los barrios y ramas en nuestra misión ha estado involucrados con los esfuerzos de ayuda. Este video fue puesto en Youtube el 10 de Abril con la documentación de algunos de estos esfuerzos. Tal vez, porque se hizo temprano en el proceso, dice que mas de 53 fallecieron pero esta semana leí que el numero en realidad es mas de 67. Aunque justo aprendí acerca del video, no tuve ninguna duda que la iglesia va a ser entre los primeros contestando seguramente con agua, comida y cosas de higiene.

Al fin, fue mucho mas. Mirando el video aprendí que la iglesia tiene un edificio grande para distribución en Monte Grande, Buenos Aires, de donde los esfuerzos estuvieron coordinados.

Disfrute los comentarios de la periodista, quien nos dice que ella esta una católica romana y sus impresiones de los grupos bien organizado. Ella habla acerca de los miembros llegando muy temprano para preparar la ropa y la comida para todos que vinieron, no importa si ellos eran miembros o no. Ella, misma, decidió quedarse y también trabajo toda la tarde. Ella comenta que aunque había un montón de cosas, por la organización cada cosita tuvo un destino. También, ella dice que le gusta trabajar junto con todos porque en realidad estábamos trabajando para el mismo lado.

Aunque este evento ocurrió hace mas de un mes, la iglesia todavía esta ayudando ellos con sus necesidades especiales en La Plata. Nuestra familia ha trabajado en proyectos similares en los EEUU. Es una alegría ser miembro de una iglesia y ver la ayuda que da a gente con necesidades en todo el mundo, ya sea necesidades físicas o espirituales.
